Today we are at a clients home off Lake Wheeler Rd just past the Yate Mill pond. The client have
been living in this house for over 20 yrs now. We were in the back yard looking at the hardscapes he have been doing over the past years and noticed a large outcropping.
This is an interesting slab of granite sticking out of the ground. There are some sections the rock is spalling
apart being soft and crumbly. I was able to dig it out with my finger. Other section as hard as you wouild expect granite to be.
In other section you can see what appears to be drill holes.
SO what the point to all this info.. This is the place, where according to local historians, the stone was mined to make the Yates Mill Pond Dam some 200 ish years ago.
There is a lot more to learn about this as well.. Its really cool to learn stuff like this around the area. It make living in Raleigh even more amazing as it has been over the years.
