Prefab Refractory Panel Replacement:
When a prefab fireplace get regular usage one thing we see happen most often, is the back wall
will start to get cracks in them. They start out small, almost hairline but in time get
bigger and bigger till they are quite noticeable. The general rule of thumb is if the crack is wider than a quarter it should be changed out with new.
Behind the refectory panel is the metal wall of the fireplace and cracks can allow high temps to reach the metal creating problem over time.
Replace the back panel in most prefabs fireplace runs $275.00 and up. Sometime the side panels become severely damaged as well resulting in a need to replace them as well.. Side panels are $175 each when done with back panels.. individually they are $265 each.
Replacing the damaged old panels with a new refectory panel is the factory recommended method of repair ONLY.
