We have people calling the office speaking with Karen to set up a time to clean their chimney. One of the questions we ask during the conversation: “Is your chimney brick or prefab?”
I can only imagine the expression on the other end of the phone as some are not sure. To help, we have put together this guide on the difference between brick and prefab chimneys.
If your house has siding, either wood, hardyplank or vinyl that extends up the chimney as well, you most likely have a prefab fireplace.
If you have brick on the house or the chimney has brick it might or might NOT be a masonry chimney.. WHY.. check this out.
In the picture on the left the house has siding and brick and the chimney is made of brick.. This unit is a brick or masonry chimney.
In the picture to the right it appears to be the same siding with brick chimney, at least until you look to the top.
In this picture you see the top of the chimney which is covered in metal and has a round pipe coming out.. This is a prefab fireplace with metal flue pipe inside a brick veneer on the unit. Now this chimney is at a condo complex and this is the end unit.. this is somewhat common to do while the units on interior part of the block with be siding unit like this
Most brick chimneys have flue liners sticking out the top like this. (this
one has a lot of mold growth. We powerwashed and cleaned it up.
So now you know a bit more about your fireplace and if someone
ask if it masonry or prefab you have a better chance of getting it
If your masonry or prefab chimney needs cleaning give us a call
